Accounting Manager of Payroll & Benefits

Up to $135k-$145k with 15% bonus
Bell & Associates has been retained to identify a dynamic and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee our client’s corporate payroll and benefits functions. This position will play a crucial role in managing accounting, planning, and analysis activities related to payroll and benefits for over 40,000 US-based employees. The successful candidate will serve as the finance partner for the People (HR) Benefits and Payroll organization and will support regional and local controllership teams. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of payroll and benefit plan operations, take a collaborative and solution-oriented approach, investigate the root causes of variances, and communicate effectively across finance and non-finance teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the accounting and operations of US benefit programs and payroll transactions.
- Oversee compensation/benefit areas during the monthly close process, coordinating with Segment Accounting Teams, Business Finance, People Teams, and the Shared Services Organization.
- Ensure compliance and continuous improvement of robust accounting and reporting processes.
- Contribute to key accounting projects and ensure deliverables meet deadlines.
- Serve as the primary/secondary contact for internal and external auditors on accounting matters.
- Produce and manage key internal financial reports.
- Maintain compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance with at least six years of experience, including 2-3 years in public accounting, benefits/payroll accounting, and corporate accounting environments.
- CPA or equivalent certification (such as CPP, CPS, or FPC) is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Experience with large financial systems like Oracle, PeopleSoft, Hyperion is preferred.
- Knowledge of the real estate service industry and terminology.
- Familiarity with Alteryx and Power BI is a plus.
- Experience in external and internal audits/SOX compliance.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and its application.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complex situations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization to gather information and resolve issues.
- Diligent, proactive, and able to work cross-functionally in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with top management, federal and state representatives, and external auditors.
- Capable of analyzing complex business/financial data and developing innovative solutions.
- Experience in forecasting, budgeting, and conducting financial/business analysis.
- Advanced understanding of accounting and bookkeeping concepts.
