Assistant Chief Examiner

Bell & Associates has been engaged by the Kansas Insurance Department to help them find their next Assistant Chief Examiner. The Assistant Chief Examiner oversees the financial examinations of insurance companies doing business in the State of Kansas to assess the companies’ financial condition and their compliance with statues, regulations, and directives of the Kansas Insurance Department. The incumbent performs detailed review of examination documents with a focus on high-risk areas or key exhibits included in the examination file and will oversee the preparation and submission of examination reports. This position communicates regularly with representatives of companies under examination, state regulators, contracted examiners, and Department personnel. The Assistant Chief Examiner provides direction and input to examination staff and contractors as needed and will be responsible for recommending an appropriate course of action if any concerns are identified during the examination process. This position may require some overnight and out-of-state travel.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college/university with major course work in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
• Certified Financial Examiner (CFE) designation. Maintaining the CFE certification is a condition of employment for this position.
• 5+ years’ of experience with a state insurance department, contract firm performing insurance regulatory examinations, public accounting firm, or similar entity, or an insurance company in a financial or audit related area of which at least two years was in an Examiner-in-Charge or supervisory capacity.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
• Other professional designations including but not limited to CIE, CFE (Fraud), CIA, CPCU, CLU, etc.
• Ability to think analytically.
• Ability to work with a team and on their own independently.
• Passion for protecting Kansas consumers and assisting us in our mission to protect and regulate the state’s insurance industry.
