Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client find their next Assistant Controller. This position supports Management, as well as the Finance and Accounting department by leading the transaction processing and monthly accounting cycle activities. The role not only leads the function, but also assists in performing a variety of accounting functions including General Ledger Control—ensuring all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled each period, ensuring all invoices and expenses are properly coded to a multi-company general ledger so that financial statement output reflects transactions accurately, consistently, and timely. The position-holder must fully understand, and be able to properly apply and communicate GAAP, must be organized with the ability to plan, lead, and perform all activities necessary to ensure a timely and controlled accounting close process. The role also requires command of principles of Cash, Accounts Receivable, Inventory Management, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable, Procurement, Debt, Equity, Consolidations, and Internal Controls. The Assistant Controller will be required to effectively assess, design, and document a system of internal controls over financial reporting and auditing of financial transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain the detailed, tactical plan for the monthly financial closing cycle based upon the strategic direction from the Controller.
  • Perform daily accounting tasks such as recording transactions, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial analysis and reports.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to management for decision-making.
  • Maintain complete, accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, ensuring all transactions are properly approved and supported by both external and internal evidence.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Lead multi-location monthly physical inventory process.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reporting, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Analyze, document through technical writing, and conclude upon complex transactions for appropriate treatment according to GAAP.
  • Document processes and procedures through narratives, diagrams and application examples and implement and test internal controls.
  • Participate in financial statement audits, tax audits, insurance audits, and ensure compliance with internal control requirements.
  • Provide support to other departments as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in public accounting and three years of corporate accounting or similar mix.
  • Leadership capabilities.
  • CPA certification.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience analyzing large volumes of data.
  • Experience with accounting, ERP, data warehousing, banking, and other software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team and ability to lead a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting and management accounting.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt easily to change.
  • Ability to work quickly, independently, and with confidence to handle many challenges.
  • Work well with others in a fast-paced, non-stop environment.
  • Flexibility to changing work conditions, assignments, and schedules.
  • Comfortable working in an industrial environment.
