Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller is a key member of the Finance team and will be expected to maintain and improve the financial functional area. The Assistant Controller will prepare and enhance financial and management reporting and cost analysis, support tax reporting, and lead auditing and internal controls activities to help DeWafelbakkers achieve its financial goals. The Assistant Controller will practice a high level of business ethics, professionalism, safety, and quality in all activities in accordance with DeWafelbakkers strategy. Specifically:

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting and analysis of budgets, financial trends, forecasts, and overall company performance.

  • Assess the financial team and provide them with guidance and opportunities to enhance their skills.

  • Integrate business financial reporting by leveraging the capabilities of the QAD Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) reporting system to enhance business decisions and outcomes.

  • Improve cash flow by reducing costs, identifying operational savings and profit improvements and challenge the status quo to increase efficiencies and drive profitability.

  • Monitor and analyze operating results and provide the CFO with insight into results and make recommendations for improvement.

  • Ensure accurate and timely compliance with all financial, tax and reporting requirements of company ownership, and ensure that ownership retains a high level of trust and confidence in the credibility of the information provided.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.



  • A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible financial functional background and some prior experience as an Assistant Controller with a consumer-packaged goods or manufactured products business.

  • Must be accustomed to the rigor of timely and accurate financial reporting, the pace of achieving cost saves through operational efficiencies and strong internal controls.

  • Personal qualities including being hands-on, having an entrepreneurial spirit, being detail oriented, having a sense of urgency, being team-oriented and the ability to take on more responsibility and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Familiarity with trade promotions and consumer deductions as well as the supply chain of selling branded consumer products to mass merchandisers is a plus.

  • Strong leadership skills to build, manage and develop an effective accounting team and knowing what “good” talent looks like.

  • Excellent business acumen. Capable of getting up to speed quickly, understanding the financials, where there are gaps, and how to connect the dots.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • A sense of urgency and accountability and willingness to be coached and learn from the CFO.
