Metrology Technician

Bell & Associates is seeking a Metrology Technician in Pewaukee. This is a full-time / direct hire position ($21-27/ hr)

Summary

Under the supervision of the Quality Manager, the Metrology Technician is primarily responsible for performing precise dimensional inspections of parts and components to ensure they meet design specifications and quality standards. This role involves using a variety of precision measuring instruments to verify part accuracy, conducting inspections during key production stages, and supporting prototype development through detailed measurement and analysis. The Metrology Technician also collaborates with the Quality team to resolve measurement discrepancies and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance measurement processes.

  • Perform Precise Dimensional Inspections: Measure and inspect parts and components using precision instruments such as calipers, micrometers, CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines), and other metrology tools to ensure adherence to design specifications.
  • Verify Measurement Accuracy: Ensure the accuracy of measurements by carefully calibrating tools and verifying the precision of instruments before and during inspections.
  • Inspect Production Parts: Conduct detailed inspections for Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Initial Run (IR) components, verifying that all parts meet stringent customer and internal quality standards.
  • Prototype Part Inspection: Accurately measure and inspect prototype parts to support engineering development and confirm adherence to design specifications during early-stage production.
  • Interpret Technical Specifications: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine exact measurement and inspection requirements.
  • Document and Report Findings: Record and analyze measurement data, documenting any non-conformances and providing clear feedback to production and engineering teams for corrective action.
  • Support Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to enhance measurement processes, techniques, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with Quality, Production, and Engineering teams to resolve measurement discrepancies, ensuring that all parts and components conform to required standards.
  • Gage R&R Studies: Conduct Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) studies to validate measurement processes, ensuring consistent accuracy across different operators and tools.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Quality or a related field is preferred.
  • 2 years related calibration, instrumentation, or metrology experience.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in using various precision measuring instruments.
  • Basic understanding of calibration principles, equipment maintenance, Gage R&R studies, PPAP/IR inspection process, and protype part inspections.
