Payroll Accountant

The Payroll Accountant assists payroll processing in the Human Capital Management System, then uses payroll information to enter and post payroll journal entries into the finance systems. The payroll accountant coordinates and completes workers comp audits for all managed entities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Manages and maintains general ledger account codes in Payroll platform for efficient payroll booking in finance systems.
- Enters all payroll journals in the accounting software, as well as payroll accruals, and submits for approval to accounting managers.
- Balancing payroll accounts with general ledger entries, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Preparing and analyzing payroll reports for management, including summaries of earnings, deductions, and tax liabilities.
- Assists and serves as back up to Payroll Administrator processing payroll, including verifying payroll data, and ensuring accurate and timely payment of employees in the company’s payroll system
- Assists and serves as back up to Payroll Administrator with garnishments, child supports, and wage audits.
- Assists and serves as back up for setting up all payroll taxes: withholding, unemployment, local withholding and monitors tax payments and notices with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Maintains payroll reporting for timely and accurate general ledger journal entries.
- Coordinates and completes workers comp audits for all managed entities by providing records and documentation to audit agencies including but not limited to payroll data, federal and state tax reports, contractor information, and company P&L or tax returns.
Minimum Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Accounting
- Strong understanding of payroll accounting principles and practices
- Familiarity with payroll software and systems (UKG Ready preferred)
- Familiarity with accounting software and systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
