VP – Human Resources

$150-200k plus bonus/ESOP, generous perks

Columbia, MO – will relocate or be in office 3-4 days per week with 1-2 days in KC office – Corporate Housing available

Bell & Associates, Inc. has been engaged to recruit our client’s next VP of HR. The VP of HR is responsible for creating and enforcing HR policies and programs and curating a positive and driven company culture.


  • Collaborates with department leaders on large-scale projects and campaigns, and to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Works with the Marketing + Communications department to develop internal communication campaigns.
  • Formulating personnel systems and strategies appropriate to the company’s corporate mission and goals.
  • Manages employee integration during mergers and acquisitions and leading organizational change.
  • Works with CAO/GC on legal matters involving employees.
  • Managing corporate HR for a company with multiple brands and human resources departments and team members; prioritizes proactive communication and values integration of legacy employees and department leaders.
  • Oversight of benefits plans and administration (relying heavily on Benefits Manager).
  • Planning and directing employee training and development programs.
  • Improving management/employee communications, including mediating in disputes and advising line managers on how to implement personnel policies.
  • Ensuring compliance with employment law.
  • Ensuring that health and safety procedures are adequate.
  • Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organizations human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training
  • and development.
  • Identifies staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organizations human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Monitors and ensures the organizations compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.


  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Previous experience leading organizational change.
  • Previous experience managing employee integration during mergers and acquisitions.
  • Knowledge of ESOPs or previous working experience with ESOPs.
  • Experience with EEO training and proficient in employee relations.
  • At least two years of related experience required.
  • SHRM-CP and/or PHR credential preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction or similar industry and challenges associated with recruiting, on-boarding, communicating, and providing continuing education to employees working on hundreds of project site locations across the country.
  • Able to handle sensitive personnel issues, conduct investigations as appropriate.
  • Knowledgeable about COVID-19, contact tracing, ongoing implementation and execution of safety measures and risk mitigation for employees.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and listening).
  • Has thorough knowledge of what information is critical for employees to know and when they should know it; values communication as a key element of HR.
  • Can work in an extremely fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; extremely responsive.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of HRIS platforms, understands record-keeping best-practices, and has keen sense of data integration.
  • Passion for providing employees continuing education opportunities. Has experience developing career maps, skills-based curriculum, in-person training, and on-line education modules through LMS platforms.
