Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Chief Financial Officer. This pivotal role will oversee all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, compliance, and risk management while collaborating closely with other functions to drive the company’s business plan and long-term strategic growth. The individual will also oversee the IT function to ensure integration between finance and technology, as well as manage aspects of innovation business cases, capital requests, long-term impact analysis, and M&A growth initiatives. The CFO will develop and negotiate key agreements with partners and suppliers, supporting joint development projects, delivering metrics and asset valuations to guide decision-making. In addition to being a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and leadership members, the CFO will develop and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability while ensuring alignment with company’s core values.
Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
Financial Strategy and Planning
- Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with the company’s overall goals, ensuring they support long-term business growth.
- Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning to ensure alignment with the company’s strategic objectives and financial targets.
Reporting and Analysis
- Provide insights to the CEO and Board of Directors through accurate financial reporting and analysis, helping guide decision-making and strategy.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements in financial reporting, maintaining transparency and accuracy in all financial disclosures.
Operational Finance Management
Capital Management
- Oversee cash flow, debt, and investment management to ensure the financial health of the company.
- Optimize working capital and funding strategies to enhance financial flexibility and operational efficiency.
Financial Controls
- Implement and maintain strong financial controls, systems, and processes to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
- Monitor risk management policies and procedures to mitigate financial risks and protect the company’s assets.
Financial Performance Analysis
- Provide comprehensive and systemic analysis of financial performance, regularly delivering insightful, user-friendly reports for the executive team and owners.
- Serve as a key business partner to operations management by developing and providing cost accounting insights and analysis of financial performance, enabling informed business decisions and driving ongoing process improvements.
- Partner with the sales team to analyze margins, sales mix, and pricing strategies, maximizing profitability and supporting sales growth.
- Work closely with operations to understand variance drivers, optimize the cost structure, and analyze capacity requirements to ensure maximum efficiency.
General Financial Management
- In addition to financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, cost accounting, fixed assets, depreciation schedules, inventory and contracts, serve as the primary contact for internal and external audits and oversee insurance, 401k, compensation, and compliance.
- Ensure that all financial results are presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and finance policies, maintaining robust documentation and ensuring compliance with internal processes.
Stakeholder Management & Board Engagement
Investor Relations
- Manage relationships with investors, financial institutions, and auditors.
- Communicate financial performance and projections effectively to stakeholders.
Board Engagement
- Prepare, present, and represent the company at board level meetings, effectively communicating the company’s financial health, outlook, and strategic goals.
- Maintain confidentiality in all financial matters to protect the company’s interests and ensure that sensitive information remains secure.
Collaboration Across Departments
- Work closely with operational leaders to align financial objectives with business operations.
Team Leadership
Building and Leading Finance Teams
- Develop and mentor the finance and accounting team, ensuring high performance.
- Foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities
Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)
- Lead due diligence, valuation, and integration processes for potential acquisitions.
Technology and Innovation
- Implement and manage the company’s new ERP system, ensuring consistent adoption, holding the team accountable, and maintaining the integrity of financial practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field
- MBA or advanced degree in finance or business
- CPA designation
- 10–15+ years in finance roles, with at least five years in senior leadership (e.g., CFO, VP Finance, or Director of Finance).
- Experience in Manufacturing, Cost Accounting and / or Financial Analysis.
- Experience managing large budgets, financial planning, and cross-functional teams.
- In-depth experience with agriculture crop protection and/or crop health products, with a strong background in branded and/or private label products at both the manufacturing and distribution-retail levels.
- Experience working in start-up or early-stage environments and with global manufacturing companies, bringing an understanding of diverse market dynamics.
- Demonstrated experience in leading customer relationship management (CRM) strategies with agricultural retailers, distributors, and major active ingredient suppliers. Turf/ornamental industry experience is a plus.
- 10+ years of experience owning and driving revenue outcomes, with a proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding revenue and margin growth objectives.
- Demonstrated success in improving financial performance, managing capital or driving M&A initiatives.
- Proven ability to implement cost-initiatives or growth strategy.
- Expertise in GAAP accounting and accounting systems, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state employer laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.
- Strong experience with ERP systems integration and proficiency in PC-based financial software. Advanced technical skills for managing complex financial systems and data analysis.
