Job Summary
The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing daily accounting operations, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and leading the accounting team. They manage financial reporting and internal controls to support the organization’s financial health.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls and policies.
- Supervise and guide the accounting team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Train and mentor staff to ensure consistent application of policies and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, audits, and financial reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize financial processes and reporting.
- Develop/Implement/Improve accounting systems and software for efficiency and accuracy.
- Lead periodic inventory activities.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA a plus but not required).
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably involving leadership.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial reporting principles.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Experience with Microsoft GP & Business Central ERP systems, QuickBooks, and tax compliance tools is a plus.
