JOB SUMMARY

The in-house Accountant is a key member of the organization administration staff responsible for the in-house accounting processes. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), this multi-task position is responsible for accurate and timely completion of financial reporting, bookkeeping, administration of accounts receivable, accounts payable, investment activity, and other related business records for the organization. The Accountant works collaboratively with the Executive Director in providing outstanding customer service to Congregants, working on special projects as needed and positively contributing to the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Accurate, timely and thorough maintenance of general ledger and generation of financial statements through Quick Books, reconciliation of accounts, monthly and ad hoc reporting and analysis, support of annual audit.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate accounts receivables including billing, reviewing automatic payments, posting cash deposits, and customer service to congregants.
  3. Ensure timely and accurate accounts payable including entering invoices and generating checks for signature, printing and sending 1099’s at year end.
  4. Manage daily business needs while advancing forward on long-term financial projects.
  5. Administrate accurate HR record keeping, weekly payroll, and on-going benefits administration including ensuring employee issues/questions are addressed.
  6. Maintain the financial aspects of the membership database, including direct interaction with members about donations, payments, fees, etc.
  7. Assist the ED in the preparation of the annual budget.
  8. Keep ED informed of problems/situations/issues on a timely basis.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience. Experience in non-profit industry a plus.
  • 3+ years related accounting experience—General Ledger, A/R, A/P, and Payroll.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Demonstrated experience with accounting systems and controls, and financial reporting and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word. Experience with QuickBooks online required, and membership management software preferred.
  • Proven attention to detail. Ability to anticipate and solve problems. Ability to juggle multiple priorities and multi-task.
  • Ability to communicate (orally and in writing) in a professional manner when dealing with Congregants, staff, vendors and Temple contacts.
  • Problem solver, self-initiator with customer-service attitude/orientation.
  • Demonstrates courtesy, respect and compassion in dealing with others.
  • Office environment. Primarily computer/desk work. Operation of machines (copiers, fax, printers).
