Bell & Associates, Inc. has been engaged to find our client an established accounting professional for an Assistant Controller role reporting directly to the CFO.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced managerial accounting professional to join an established organization as a Assistant Controller located in the heart of Johnson County. The Assistant Controller will be charged with managing two direct reports, adherence to internal controls, month-end & year-end financials, reconciliations, financial forecasting along with other aspects of day-to-day financial and accounting matters. Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and develop existing accounting team members.
  • Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns in various states, process payments as required, and act as the liaison with 3rd party regarding compliance issues.
  • Directly supervise an established accounting team of two.
  • Month end close, budgeting/forecasting, financial statement preparation & analysis, oversight of journal entries/accruals and evaluation of forecasted results to actual.
  • Partner in the completion of a rolling three-year forecast including providing recommendations, process improvements, and overall financial input.
  • Ensure completion of all regulatory reporting in a timely manner (401(k), medical insurance
    plans, etc.)
  • Stay current on GAAP, recommend process improvements accordingly and assurance that GAAP is strictly adhered to and necessary implementations are carried out as required by state and federal regulations
  • Ensure reconciliations relating to the balance sheet are completed accurately and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Provide and coordinate training for accounting staff and develop and maintain detailed cross-training structure with process documentation.
  • Participate in the completion and preparation of year-end tax, state sales and use tax, and other related corporate tax functions.
  • Identify areas of process improvement and provide solutions to increase overall efficiency.
  • Coordinate and oversee all company auditing activities.

Professional requirements:

  • 5+ years in a relevant accounting role
  • Bachelor’s or higher in accounting or finance required along with a CPA.
  • Customer service-oriented attitude with the ability to efficiently delegate responsibility
  • Experience with managing accounting personnel preferred.
  • Advanced Excel and data management skills required. A thorough working knowledge of MS Office preferred.
  • Large ERP system experience required with a preference for someone with implementation/selection experience.
  • In depth understanding of GAAP with the ability to troubleshoot/resolve accounting discrepancies and department inefficiencies
  • Supports professional growth of themselves as well as their team.
  • Adaptive to the need at hand, changes in the company and champions change when necessary.
  • At least two years of CPA firm auditing experience required.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance along with an active CPA is required for client consideration with a master’s degree strongly preferred.
