Cash Application Specialist

The Cash Application Specialist is responsible for accurately applying high-volume customer payments to accounts, ensuring timely reconciliation, and supporting overall Accounts Receivable operations. This role requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and advanced Excel proficiency. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and brings strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and apply daily customer payments including ACH, wire transfers, lockbox, credit card payments, and checks.

• Reconcile customer accounts and research payment discrepancies, short pays, deductions, and unapplied cash.

• Collaborate with AR, Billing, and Customer Service teams to resolve payment or invoicing issues.

• Prepare daily, weekly, and month-end cash application reports.

• Maintain accurate and organized supporting documentation for audit purposes.

• Monitor and clear unapplied cash, ensuring timely follow-up with internal teams or customers.

• Assist in month-end close activities related to AR and cash application.

• Support continuous improvement of cash application processes, automation tools, and reporting.

• Utilize advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, data cleansing, and preferably macros) for analysis and reconciliation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in cash application, accounts receivable, or related accounting role.

• Strong understanding of payment processing, account reconciliation, and AR workflows.

• Advanced Excel skills required (testing may be administered).

• Experience working with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).

• High attention to detail and accuracy in a high-volume environment.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work onsite daily in Nashville, TN.
