CFO – Interim – 6+ month consulting engagement

$125-150/hr.

Kansas City, MO – Plaza office

Bell & Associates has been engaged to find our client’s Interim CFO. The CFO will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, helping analyze, strategize, and grow the company’s financial position. This seasoned strategist will not only understand current financial practices and trends, but also will have experience adapting to change.

Responsibilities:

  • Take responsibility for all cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy.
  • Coordinate development of granular annual, cyclical, and out-year forecasts, as well as reporting for and tracking against the same.
  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the company.
  • Develop and implement best practices, tools, and processes to ensure a well-controlled, yet flexible, organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows.
  • Advance accounting and other systems and processes using technology, identifying needs, opportunities, requirements, and solutions, with the ability to manage selection and implementation processes.
  • Lead efficient annual audit and tax processes, serving as the primary interface with third party accountants and advisors.
  • Comply with national and local financial and compliance requirements by ensuring related recordkeeping, delivering on reporting requirements, and studying existing and new legislation.
  • Manage, build, and optimize finance and accounting personnel; oversee financial and IT systems, and lead system implementation and finance automation projects.
  • Research economic trends, analyze internal operations, establish metrics and KPIs, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement.
  • Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support HR operations by coordinating with external service providers (ex: payroll, benefits) and internal staff responsible for other aspects of HR; communicating and enforcing values, and planning and reviewing compensating strategies.
  • Monitor business performance by measuring and analyzing results, establish corrective measures as needed, minimize the impact of variances.
  • Prepare detailed reports for and lead financial reviews in board presentations, Executive Committee meetings, lenders/vendors, and rest of company as needed.
  • Provide general corporate leadership in conjunction with the other members of the Executive Committee.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in executive leadership roles.
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, financial planning, strategy, forecasting and budget development.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Experience in Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP).
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions.
  • GAAP Accounting.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business accounting, or finance.
  • Executive experience with heavily cyclical industries and business models and their associated challenges.
