Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Controller. The Controller is responsible for the daily management of all accounting/finance operations including AP/AR, work in progress, weekly payroll, compilation and presentation of monthly financial statements, ensuring accurate and timely reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts, analyzing and reporting key revenue, margin and cash flow information on a regular basis, and supporting the financial policy and reporting needs of the corporate parent organization. The controller works with other business functions such as sales and project management ensuring cohesiveness of projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily management, supervision, and oversight to the accounting/finance function.
  • Oversee the preparation of weekly payroll and all related tax filings.
  • Ensure the preparation of monthly union reporting and related payments.
  • Ensure employee expense reimbursement and per diem payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Oversee all accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Oversee the recording of the revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities of the company on a regular basis.
  • Ensure all general ledger accounts are reconciled on a regular basis as needed.
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Oversee maintenance of fixed asset records, including the qualification as a capital or noncapital expenditure.
  • Responsible for reporting calculation of accumulated depreciation for financial presentation and reconciliation of subsidiary property records to the general ledger.
  • Conduct the certificate of insurance process including enrollment in OCIP/CCIP programs.
  • Complete reporting requirements associated with company’s parent.
  • Manage and work with internal auditors and tax preparers to comply with annual audit processes and tax returns.
  • Oversee and advise on preparation of all sales and use tax filings.
  • Oversee the preparation and advisory on all state and city employment and contractor licensing.

Requirements

  • At least a four-year degree with a major in accounting or at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in accounting and 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of general ledger reconciliation and preparation of financial statements.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience with construction accounting is required.
  • Significant experience with Acumatica (preferred) or similar modern-era accounting software is required.
  • Familiarity and experience with union payroll, fringe benefits, and associated requirements is preferred.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing industry accounting principles is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills are required to ensure strong working relationships with peers, and parent company finance members.
