Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client find their next Controller. The Financial Controller will establish and document accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP, own daily bookkeeping tasks, generate monthly GAAP-based financial statements, and perform other ad-hoc accounting- and finance-related analyses to inform business decisions. The Controller needs to be someone who can wear many hats as the company looks to stabilize and professionalize the accounting and finance function to support their exciting growth trajectory.

Responsibilities

  • Full ownership of finance function in the organization with strong thought partnership to executive team
  • Establish, document, and streamline bookkeeping procedures related to inventory purchases and receipts, sales and invoicing, and month end reconciliations
  • Generate monthly GAAP-based financial statements and provide commentary on monthly/YTD performance to the executive team as well as the board of directors
  • Proactively establish, own, and maintain key analyses and KPIs to support executive team decision making (e.g. detailed unit economics and margin analysis to help inform pricing decisions)
  • Generate ad-hoc reports for members of management/various stakeholders
  • Ensure appropriate inventory and COGS tracking in the financial statements, reconciling month end balances to the inventory management system (RO Writer)
    • Establish/maintain financial controls, ensuring the safeguarding of assets
  • Post/reconcile daily bank activity for four bank accounts
  • Post/reconcile credit card activity
  • Post/reconcile Shopify activity
  • Manage the end-to-end accounts payable function: coding and posting of vendor bills and cash disbursements
  • Post payroll transactions and payroll accruals on monthly basis
  • Build and maintain a 13 week cash flow forecast
  • Ownership of lender relationships and management of debt financing activity, including working capital line of credit
  • Maintain asset depreciation and amortization schedules
  • Manage the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting to provide visibility into performance for executive team and board of directors
  • Prepare 1099’s
  • Develop weekly revenue reporting model
  • Manage sales tax filings/remittances, income, and other tax filings
  • Manage annual insurance renewal / policy selection processes
  • Annual audit / 3rd party review
  • Maintain relationship with FISNI / POS Financing Sources
  • Employee Benefits matters

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a Controller/Accounting Manager role
  • Prior experience with QBO
  • Prior experience with payroll processing (ADP preferred)
  • Prior experience with GAAP and accrual-based accounting
  • Intermediate level skills with MS Excel (pivot tables, Vlookups, report formatting)
  • BS/BA in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
