Controller

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client find their next Controller. The Controller will oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensure accurate financial reporting, and maintain control systems to report accurate financial results. This role requires a detail-oriented, reliable professional who can manage complex accounting activities and providing leadership to the accounting team.

Responsibilities:

• Manage all accounting staff and operations including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, cost and project accounting, inventory accounting, payroll, and revenue recognition.
• Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances.
• Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and work in process.
• Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
• Manage the month-end and year-end close process.
• Liaise with external auditors to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained.
• Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with finance and accounting regulations and standards.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
• 5+ years of accounting and finance experience.
• Experience in the construction or heavy civil engineering industry is highly preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
• Experience with accounting software and databases; Vista / Trimble products preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
