The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in finance, accounting, and management, with a proven track record of strategic financial leadership. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of diverse entities within a family office environment. Currently, this position would lead and mentor just one accounting professional, but there is potential for the team to grow.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure the efficient operation and financial health of all entities.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes for each entity, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and financial risk management across all entities.
  • Conduct regular financial analysis and reporting to provide insights into business performance and support decision-making processes.

Accounting and Reporting:

  • Manage all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements for each entity.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of financial statements and coordination with external tax accountants.

Internal Controls and Compliance:

  • Establish and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy of financial records, and mitigate risks.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with CFO, COO, and external advisors on environmental filings, city permitting, and other compliance matters as needed.

Strategic Planning and Analysis:

  • Provide strategic financial guidance and analysis to support business decisions, investment opportunities, and growth initiatives.
  • Evaluate financial performance, identify areas for improvement, and recommend solutions to enhance profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior management and stakeholders to develop long-term financial plans and strategic initiatives.

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead and mentor a team of one accounting professional, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration with direct report and superiors, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide direction, guidance, and support to staff, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations.
  • Promote professional development and skill enhancement within the finance team to build a high-performing and motivated workforce.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience (7+ years) in financial management, accounting, or controllership roles, preferably within a family office or multi-entity environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards (GAAP) and tax laws.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations.
  • Proficiency in financial budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting tools/software.
  • Experience in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive approach to problem solving, with a commitment to accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities with a sense of urgency and professionalism.
