Our client is the nation’s leading precision cleaning and passivation contractor specializing in the cleaning of high purity gas and fluid systems. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Controller will work closely with other senior leadership team members and Operations Managers.

The Controller will lead all day-to-day accounting, finance, treasury, tax, and risk management operations of a $100 plus million budget and supervise a team of 6 plus staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. The Controller will ensure that the company has the systems and procedures in place to produce timely and accurate financial statements, manage our cash flow effectively, and manage our operational risk. The Controller will work closely with operations leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.

In addition, s/he will partner with the CFO, senior leadership, and the human resources (HR), employee development (ED), and information technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate finance, HR, ED, and IT functions.

Responsibilities

Departmental Leadership

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt and disbursement of cash.
  • Coordinate the annual audit of our financial statements.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements; monitor progress against budget and keep the CFO abreast of the company’s financial status.
  • Help lead company leadership in the annual budgeting process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Oversee all financial and job cost accounting; ensure that revenues and expenditures are consistently aligned with specific projects/jobs.
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the operations managers and other departmental leaders.
  • Ensure we are properly accounting for fixed asset acquisitions and disposals.

Team Leadership

  • Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

Requirements

Mature leader with a minimum of 10 (ten) years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience in leading and building teams, and gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. S/he will ideally have experience in an environment that uses job cost accounting involving a wide volume and sizes of projects.

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to the company’s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the CFO, the responsibility for finance
  • Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • Solid experience managing financial reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and treasury.
  • Experience working with accounting and reporting software with specific experience working with Great Plains General Ledger / Microsoft Dynamics; UKG and CRM software a plus.
  • Keen analytic, organization and problem solving.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability and desire to translate and teach complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
