Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager

$80-100k plus 10% bonus

Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client find their next FSQA Manager. The Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager is the on-site food safety and regulatory authority. The position has the primary responsibility of driving the food safety system by developing, modifying, and maintaining the plants’ HACCP, SOP, SSOP, and regulatory programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the production of safe and wholesome food. The FSQA Manager assures consistent quality of production by developing and enforcing good manufacturing practices (GMP) systems, validating processes, providing documentation, managing the FSQA, Janitorial, and Sanitation teams.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for QA technical & compliance system to assure food safety.
  • Primary Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
  • Creating/evaluating/auditing all programs and policies as needed to conduct Food Safety Audits with third party inspectors, USDA, FDA, County, City and Customer Inspector auditors.
  • Responsible for all Food Safety Document control.
  • Acts as Recall Manager.
  • Lead with integrity, accuracy and moral conduct as related to all business opportunities and activities
  • Active involvement in the Leadership Team.
  • SQF Practitioner responsible to develop, implement, maintain, and improve SQF (Safety Quality Food) program.
  • Responsible for HACCP development, maintenance, and validations.
  • Maintains and improves product quality by completing product, company, system, compliance, and surveillance audits; investigating customer complaints; collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods.
  • Perform internal quality audits in the facility and implement corrective actions based on audit results.
  • Track and report audit results to Operations for corrective action.
  • Monitor and support all Food Safety Program activity (i.e. micro, environmental, foreign material, pest control activity and other) using trend analysis.
  • Responsible for coordinating and documenting Food Safety Training Program.
  • Develop, review and update standard operating procedures.
  • Support other department managers in audit projects and corrective actions.
  • Perform a risk assessment of each process and develop the critical control points that will be monitored to assure the production of safe and wholesome food products.
  • Lead the plant HACCP team and train employees in the monitoring and verifying the Critical Control points.
  • Develop a complete SSOP program to ensure the plant is maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.
  • Train all employees in the requirements of the HACCP, SOP, SSOP and Food Safety prerequisite programs and audit documentation to ensure compliance.
  • Reassess the HACCP programs at least annually and modify based on new and emerging knowledge that impacts the risk assessment.
  • Develop and maintain the scientific documentation to support the decision making process that occurs during the risk assessment.
  • Achieves quality assurance operational objectives by contributing information and analysis to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards; identifying and resolving problems; completing audits; determining system improvements; implementing change.
  • Validates quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes; measuring production; documenting evidence; determining operational and performance qualification; writing and updating quality assurance procedures.
  • Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability, studies, recalls, corrective actions, and re-valuations.
  • Updates knowledge by studying trends in and development sin quality management; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Food Safety, Food Quality, Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or related field required. Experience may substitute for a degree. Master’s degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality assurance and food safety roles
  • Bakery operations management experience is a plus
  • HACCP certified preferred
  • Spanish-speaking would be a plus
  • Strong communicator – verbal, written and electronic
  • Excellent ability to work with third-party auditors to achieve success for the company
  • Ability to thrive in a small business organization
  • High aptitude for and experience with critical analytical work
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity with and affinity for research and problem solving
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with team members at all organizational levels and establish sound relationships with all levels of team members
  • Excellent coaching and team development skills
  • Excellent Excel, and better MS Office Suite skills
  • Strong work ethic and sense of personal responsibility for work outcomes
  • Flexible, organized, and able to accurately work under time constraints and deadlines
