Head of Finance
The company
- PE-backed, SaaS company, PE investment – Sept 2024
- Vertical SaaS: practice management and EHR platform for specialty dental practices, with oral surgery as the core market. Roughly 800 practices nationwide.
- Also runs a managed services arm handling revenue cycle management for its customers, which makes the financial model more interesting than a pure subscription business.
- Roughly $13M revenue, roughly 80 employees. Growing quickly, with operational infrastructure behind where the revenue is. This is a growth story, not a turnaround.
The role
- First true finance leader the company has had. Reports to the COO.
- Builder role. Small team, day-to-day close supported by an outsourced firm. This person supervises that and owns everything that leaves the company.
- Owns the model: three statement, ARR build, sales capacity, hiring plan, scenario work.
- Owns FP&A end to end: annual budget, monthly forecast, variance analysis, board and lender reporting.
- Builds the SaaS metrics infrastructure: ARR, NRR and GRR, CAC, payback, gross margin by cohort.
- Real seat at the table with the CEO and COO on pricing, sales comp, headcount tradeoffs.
The profile
-
6+ years of SaaS finance experience. Weighted about 70 percent strategic finance and FP&A, 30 percent accounting fluency. Not a controller, not an accounting-first candidate.
- Currently the number two finance person at a similarly sized, scaling B2B software company and ready to be the number one. Or an FP&A leader already doing this job in everything but title.
- Has built a finance function rather than inherited or maintained one. Hands-on. Still in the model themselves.
- Vertical software or subscription and velocity sales model experience preferred, not required.
- Central or Eastern time zone. Remote workable with regular travel to Tulsa.
