Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Sr. Test Engineer. The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of test strategies, test systems, and production test processes supporting printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA), sub-assemblies, and finished products within a high-mix, low-to-medium volume contract manufacturing environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and customer satisfaction across multiple programs and industries. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on technical expertise, a disciplined approach to problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate effectively with customers, production, quality, and supply chain teams.
Responsibilities
Test Development & Engineering
- Design, develop, and support functional, in-circuit (ICT), Flying Probe Test, boundary scan, and system-level test solutions for PCBA and electro-mechanical assemblies
- Define test coverage requirements based on customer specifications, schematics, and manufacturing risk
- Develop test hardware (fixtures, interfaces) and test software/scripts
- Lead test strategy definition during NPI and product transfers
Manufacturing Support
- Provide hands-on support to production test operations, including troubleshooting failures and resolving yield issues
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for test-related defects
- Improve test throughput, coverage, and robustness to support on-time delivery
- Support first article builds, pilot runs, and production ramp activities
Customer & Program Support
- Interface directly with customers to clarify test requirements, acceptance criteria, and documentation
- Participate in design-for-test (DFT) reviews and provide feedback to improve manufacturability
- Support customer audits, reviews, and technical discussions related to test processes
Process Improvement & Documentation
- Establish and maintain test documentation, work instructions, and validation reports
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce test cost, cycle time, and escapes
- Support quality initiatives including PFMEA, control plans, and corrective action processes
Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as a technical mentor to junior test engineers and technicians
- Promote best practices and standardization across test platforms and programs
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7+ years of test engineering experience in an EMS / contract manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of PCBA testing methodologies (ICT, functional, system-level)
- Experience with test equipment, instrumentation, and fixture design
- Proficiency reading schematics, BOMs, and technical documentation
- Hands-on troubleshooting experience in a production environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting high-mix, low-volume manufacturing
- Familiarity with boundary scan, JTAG, and automated test platforms
- Experience with scripting languages (LabVIEW, Python, C/C++, or similar)
- Exposure to regulated industries (medical, industrial, aerospace, or automotive)
- Prior involvement in NPI and product transfer activities
